Born in Figueres, Spain, January 12th 1995, Maverick Viñales began racing in mini bikes at three years of age, right before venturing on to motocross. In 2002, Viñales’ passion for speed grew which eventually brought him to circuit racing. Viñales has competed in the Catalonian 50cc Championship and has followed it up with several successful seasons in 70cc “Metrakit” bikes. Since attaining the Catalonian 125cc Champion Title in 2007, he has successfully defended his crown in 2008 and has won the Mediterranean Trophy. In 2008, Viñales also competed at selected events in the Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft (IDM) German 125GP Championship for RZT Racing aboard an Aprilia RS 125 R. In 2009, he moved up to the Campeonato de Espana de Velocidad (CEV) Buckler 125GP series and secured the Rookie of the Year award with 4 successive podium positions during the season.
